Once upon a time...

there was a young girl who had recently graduated from the University of Georgia and Johnson & Wales University. She was educated and able, but had no job. She decided to move back to Burke County, Georgia and try opening a bake shop and restaurant to do what she loved with the family she loved. With much help from friends and family, her dream became reality in the fall of 2010 when Burke Perk Bake Shop & Bistro opened its doors!

After eight years of hard work and dedication, Burke Perk has gradually built a clientele of catering, specialty cakes and cookies, and event planning. These days, in addition to running the restaurant, we keep our calendar booked with events ranging from business lunches, family dinners, birthday and anniversary parties, wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, personal cheffing, breakfast meetings, civic club meetings, and everything in-between.

We want to make whatever event you're planning as easy as possible for you and as memorable as possible for your guests. We pride ourselves in making the freshest food made by hand, not by freezer. Many of the recipes we use were handed down through generations of our family, and others were created specifically with your event in mind. We like to think that we do all the sweating so you don't have to...we can even handle the flowers and decorating!

We offer private events on-site at Burke Perk on available Saturdays when the restaurant is closed, and we will cater off-site just about anywhere. We've gone as far as the Georgia coast and as rural as a cow pasture, so we can handle pretty much anything. Check out the rest of our site to see photos of what we've done in the past and some detailed information about our menus. Thanks for visiting

OUR TEAM

Burke Perk employs about 17 people. Our team is more appropriately called our family because we spend a lot of time together, we love each other like family, and we are in fact a family-run business. Each member of our staff is important to us and vital to our success. Even some of our regular patrons are like family and part of our team. We all work very hard because we strive to create an environment that is welcoming and relaxing. So if you notice us hugging customers, taking little kids to the back to get stickers, or even if you notice a customer clearing off their own table when we're busy...it's because we are like family here. This is our house, and we welcome you to be a part of it!

The Owner

Sarah-Ann Kelly is a Waynesboro native and a graduate of Edmund Burke Academy. She is also an alumna of The University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in consumer foods, and she is also an alumna of Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, NC with an associate's degree in baking & pastry arts.

The Office Manager & Mama

Debbie Salter is the glue that holds our family business together, and a nurturing mom to each employee and customer. She was a bookkeeper for many many years here in Waynesboro before she became a real estate broker, co-owning a realty business for 14 years. She gave all that up to open a family business with her two children (and has probably regretted it ever since, lol). She wears many hats here at BP, from bookkeeper to soup maker to line cook to waitress.

The General Manager & Brother

Thomas Kelly is Sarah-Ann's older brother and another essential part of Burke Perk's success. Thomas is the official runner-of-errands, Mr. Fix-It, and anything in-between. With a background in marketing, Thomas has worked in many food establishments in the area. When his sister came to him with the cockamamie idea of opening a restaurant, he signed right on. He's here everyday to go and do whatever is needed, from repairing floors and equipment to grilling steaks and burgers.

The Assistant Manager

Dallas Barton has been a member of our family since he was 19 years old, and he has worked hard to prove himself as an asset with our customers. Dallas handles many of the day-to-day issues that arise, and we know that he always takes care of our patrons the way we would want. He handles reservations and special requests from customers, he does many of our regular catering jobs, and he manages our front-of-house staff.
